Security Activities

Central Reserve Police Force is the largest Central Armed Police Force of India and boasts been praised for its past as well as an eventful present. The time is full of numerous "SAGAs OF BRAVERY" which serve as an inspiration and guiding principles to the force.Since the beginning of its existence in 1939, it has been on the move for a long time, from providing support during the merger of small Princely States into Indian Union and handling of the Partition Riots. Today it is fighting an entire guerrilla conflict in the Maoist affected zones. The CRPF has fought many tough battles, and stood along with the Army during war. Ten brave soldiers from CRPF achieved martyrdom as Chinese troops intruded into Indian Territory and attacked its patrol at Hot springs (Laddakh) on 21 Oct 1959.Two CRPF companies deployed at Sardar Post in Kutch repulsed an attack by a brigade of Pakistan Army on 9th April 1965. The battle at Sardar Post is considered to be the greatest battle ever to be fought in the history of Police forces. In the internal security front it stopped Parliament attack on the 13th of December 2001, and Ayodhya attack on July 27, 2005.

CRPF also played an important role in reducing militancy in Punjab during 1980s and insurgency during the insurgency in Tripura during 1990s. On the recommendation by the group of Ministers CRPF was designated as the main internal security force of the country. Today, more than a third of the force's resources are used in left wing extremist affected areas to curb left-wing extremism. The CRPF played a major role in eradicating the naxalism that was sweeping through West Bengal and from Kaimur and Rohtas areas of Bihar. The naxals were flushed out from the Saranda forest area of Jharkhand which was the major base area for them. Despite scattered deployments CRPF neutralized top maoist chief Kishanji in 2011 and then made significant incursions into liberated naxal areas like Saranda ( in 2011),Maad (in the year 2012) as well as the Cut-off region (in the year 2012), Burha Pahad (in 2012), Silger & Pedia (in 2013).

CRPF also conducted emergency relief and rescue missions during various natural calamities like Orissa Super Cyclone (1999), Gujarat Earthquake (2001), Tsunami (2004) and J&K Earthquake (2005). CRPF has demonstrated its strength throughout various overseas UNdeployments such as Srilanka (1987), Haiti (1995), Kosovo (2000) & Liberia (Women Contingent) (2007) also.
