How to Generate Random Numberson the TI-84 Plus

You TI-84 Plus calculator has a vast number of numbers arranged in a table, referred to as a random number table, which it utilizes the table to generate random numbers.
Generating random integers
If you want to generate random integer,follow these steps:
- To activate the randInt Wizard from the Math PROB menu, click If you're using the TI-84 Plus, there is no wizard to rundint. In order to use the command you must know what syntax to expect: randint(lower the upper and lower elements]).A wizard will make the entry of data simple. A wizard arranges the information you enter so that it matches the syntax of the command. See the wizard in the initial screen.
- Enter the lower limit as well as the upper limit that you want the random number you choose to be.You would like a random number of 1 to 100. Press [ENTER] or the down-arrow keys to navigate to the next section of the wizard.
- Enter n, to determine how many random numbers you wish to generate.Press [ENTER] several times to generate additional random numbers, as seen in the second screen.
- If you'd like to generatea list of random integers, alter the value of n.See The third page in.
Generating random integerswith no repetition
Did you notice that the integer, 52, was selected twice in the third screen? If you're making a list of random integers and want to eliminate repetitions by using another method. Here are the steps:
- To activate the randIntNoRep wizard from the Math PROB menu, click See on the initial screen.On the TI-84 Plus, the randIntNoRep command doesn't have wizards to aid you. The syntax for the command is randIntNoRep(lower,upper). Like the TI-84 Plus C it doesn't provide the option of changing how many terms you can use.
- Input both the lower and upper limits, as well as n (the total number of terms).See the second screen.
- Enter [ENTER] until the numbers have been generated.This can be seen in three screens.
Generating random decimals
It is simple to generate random decimal numbers that are strictly between 0 and 1. Press
Choose the rand option to choose the rand command Math Probability menu. Then repeatedly press [ENTER] to generate random numbers. The first screen will illustrate this process.

Seeding the random number generator
Your calculator generates random numbers from the huge number of numbers presented in an alphabetical list. Here's the best part. You are able to choose which part of the list you want your calculator to start producing random numbers. This is known as seeding your random number.
Have a bit of fun with the number you pick to start your calculator. This is a great exercise! Find out how long you have been alive. Your calculator comes with a function that can figure that out for you! Take these actions:
- Enter [2nd][0] for access to the Catalog.Notice that your calculator is in Alpha mode, as shown by the blinking red A within the cursor.
- To add the DBD( function to insert the function, press dbd refers to the days that lie between dates.
- Enter your birthdate as the number on this application: MM.DDYY.Dates have to fall between 1950 and 2049. This form, June 1, 1968 was entered with the number 06.0168.
- Press [,].
- You can enter today's date as a number on this form: MM.DDYY. January 2 2012 is entered using the following number: 01.0213.
- Enter [ENTER] and learn how many days you have had alive.See on the screen that first appears. Wow! 16,286 days is an awful lot older!
Following are the necessary steps you need to follow to start your calculator:
- Enter the code you're employing to seed the calculator. 16286. You could use any real number to seed your calculator.
- Press
- To include the rand command press
- Press [ENTER] to start seeding your calculator.See the first line of the second screen.
- Test it! Utilize randInt( to generate random number.See the final line on this second screen.
Want to impress your friends? Make your calculator seeded with numbers that you know in advance. For instance, if you deliberately seed your calculator with numbers like 16286 and the following three randomly generated numbers (from zero to 1000) which will be generated will be 203 213, and 197 as displayed in the 3rd screen. Make sure you don't reveal your secret!
